On a stressful weekday after work, we landed at the prestigious Taj Deccan hotel for dinner on an invitation to have an experience at their in-house Pan-Asian restaurant, SYN Asian Grill & Bar. As we reached, we were promptly greeted by the manager and were directed to our table. For Archana and I, the ambience of a place is as important as the taste of the food and as we entered the place, we were very impressed with the soft lighting and the music that was being played by their in-house DJ! It just set our mood right and we were all set to unwind and get started with the night.
First, they brought us the “Sunday Morning“, a tangy combination of Pineapple juice, Orange juice, lime and Grenadine and was a perfect drink to start with. The soup they served was the famous “Tom Yum“(Spicy Thai soup with lemongrass, Kaffir lime and Chilli bird) and we both totally agreed that it was the best Tom Yum we have had till date – light and refreshing, just how a soup should be!
For the starters, we had Yasai Tempura(Seasonal Vegetable lightly battered and deep fried with tempura sauce), Tori Katsu(Deep fried Breaded chciken served with Tongkastsu Sauce), Vietnamese Tofu and Chicken Satay. Of all,in veg we loved the Tofu as it was so soft and melted like butter unlike the other Tofu dishes we tasted in other places. In non-veg, its Chicken Satay as it will be your go to dish if you love Thai cuisine and coconut!
Sushi lovers, keep reading this! Archana and I tasted Sushi in different restaurants but never liked them(Really!) and we were little apprehensive to try it here as well but boy, we were wrong! We couldn’t stop ourselves from gobbling that veg sushi(Kaki Age Jumbo). Perfect! The tuna Sushi(Kasai Maguro Maki) was equally delicious but we loved the veg sushi a tad bit more 😀
For the main course, we had Yaki Soba(Wheat noodles) and Jasmine rice with Thai Red Chicken curry. It was palatable and didnot disappoint.
Then finally it was time for dessert and this was the most interestingly plated dessert we ever had and am sure you would agree! It’s called the Tub Tim Grob which is basically Water chestnut with coconut milk served in coconut shell and you would either love it or not and I just fell for it. The sweet coconut milk and the immersed chestnuts in it were match made in heaven! A Lovely end to the evening 🙂
The best thing about this place apart from the delicious off-beat food variety is that it is apt for date night as it has gorgeous outdoor seating, or for team lunches as they would modify the menu and the seating as and how you want it or just to hang out with your friends for drinks and good music(yes, they have a bar counter and an in-house DJ).
All in all, we would recommend you to give “SYN” at Taj Deccan a try and if you are a fan of Asian cuisine, you should definitely visit this place for some authentic food!
